Mr. Preite holds a Bachelor of Science degree from New York University, where he was a member of the NYU student council, including class president and ombudsman. He also holds a Juris Doctors' degree from the New York Law School, where he was an Articles Editor and Member of the Journal of International and Comparative Law, and served as research assistant to Prof. Karen Gross. From 1992 to 1995, Mr. Preite served as a law clerk to the Honorable Jerome Feller, United States Bankruptcy Judge for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of New York. Ralph E. Preite is a commercial litigator concentrating in Bankruptcy and Debtor's and Creditors' Rights. With over 15 years experience in the bankruptcy arena, Mr. Preite has represented institutional lenders and securities firms, as well as corporate and individual creditors including secured and unsecured creditors, landlords, purchasers of assets and other parties in interest in bankruptcy court proceedings. He has defended and asserted preference and fraudulent conveyance actions, including representing bankruptcy Trustees appointed by the U.S. Trustee's Office, a division of the Department of Justice. Mr. Preite also counsels clients in out-of-court workouts and debt restructurings. Included in Mr. Preite's victories is a decision upheld on appeal from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New York which was then reported as a "Decision of Interest" in the New York Law Journal in March 2004. Mr. Preite has appeared on television as a legal analyst on bankruptcy matters. Most recently, he appeared as a guest on the television show Law Line together with the Hon. Dennis Milton, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of New York to comment on the developments under the Bankruptcy Law one year after the law was overhauled by Congress. The show is aired from time to time on Law Line, and is also broadcast on the web at LawLine.com. In August 2002, Mr. Preite appeared on the NBC network television show Extra to comment on the Jackson Family bankruptcy and the possible bankruptcy auction of the Jackson 5's family home. Mr. Preite has served as a board member of the Board of Trustees of the Epiphany School Foundation, Inc. since 2004. He has chaired its Development Committee since 2005, as has chaired its Search Committee in 2006 when the Foundation underwent a search for a new Director of Development. Mr. Preite has served on the annual gala committee of the Child Abuse Prevention Program, Inc., a children's services agency which provides counseling to 3rd and 4th grade school children in the New York City Public School system. He is admitted to practice in New York and the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York. |
