Keith D. Sernick specializes in municipal law, tax lien foreclosure and legislative affairs. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Sernick was an executive of XSPAND, Inc., a company he founded with former New Jersey Governor, James J. Florio and Paul V. Scura, former head of Prudential Securities Investment Banking, which assists local governments in collecting and disposing delinquent tax liens. Under Mr. Sernick's guidance, XSPAND conducted a private securitization for the County of Erie and the first bulk sale of tax liens for the Villages of Freeport and Hempstead. Mr. Sernick was also the founder and president of Municipal Strategies, Inc., a privately held corporation that focused on assisting municipalities in retrieving uncollected assets. Before entering the private sector, Mr. Sernick served as an assistant general counsel for the City of New York and a deputy treasurer for Nassau County. As deputy treasurer, he formulated and conducted the first bulk sale of tax liens in New York State history, selling a portfolio valued at approximately $20 million. Mr. Sernick has lectured extensively throughout the country on the state of the tax lien industry, tax lien collection and tax lien foreclosures and their relationship with municipalities. He is a member of the National and New York State Government Finance Officers Association and the National Tax Lien Association. Mr. Sernick graduated from the State University of NewYork at Stony Brook and received his Juris Doctor from Touro College School of Law. |
